About 2.27 million people are incarcerated in the United States. Many prisoners are in jail because of mental health issues or substance abuse problems, problems that are only made worse by jail time and especially by solitary confinement.

With so many people suffering from mass incarceration, it stands to reason that change is needed. We can help by providing solidarity for prisoners, but also we wish to call for reform. What is the best way to attack the problems?

Frequently, people who are incarcerated do not have enough resources to succeed or survive in the outside world. Job discrimination against people with a record is a real obstacle, and it can be hard to find housing and other resources as well.
